Text and cut-away illustrations feature the stories of real-life children, one in first class and one in steerage, who sailed aboard the Titanic on the night of its disaster in the North Atlantic. While, even for kids, there can be no happy ending to this story, the book follows the main characters' lives past the sinking and rescue, into adulthood, and till their deaths. The story is written with low-key emotion, and is more factual than overwhelmingly sad. 6-12 YO

Titanic: Ghosts Of The Abyss (Mireille Majoor) $ 5 PB EC This title focuses on the discoveries accomplished by small underwater robots. Every page is filled with impressive 3-D photographs and artist's renderings, making this a showcase for images captured by the robots small enough to explore parts of the ship that larger exploratory equipment could not reach. You will need 3D glasses to avert a sense of vertigo when looking at some of the images. The photographs of the ship's present state are shown side by side with pictures from the ship's construction, allowing readers to see the bronze propellers buried in the sea floor, compared with their pristine condition in 1914. It is a truly impressive achievement to explore the wreckage so fully, and the photos are a suitably haunting memorial to the lives lost. Any age.
