Time travel and historical fiction combine in this novel of the American Revolution. During a camp out, ten-year-old Matthew, his younger sister Katie, and three friends board an old rowboat and are transported to the Delaware River in 1776. The children are caught up in the conflict between the patriots and the Hessians; an encounter with some Indians is thrown in for good measure. 10+ 

The Adventures Of George Washington (Margaret Davidson) $4 PB VGC A brief biography for younger children of the first President concentrating on his years of service in the French and Indian War and as leader of the American army during the Revolution. 6-10 YO 

Guns For General Washington – A Story Of The American Revolution (Seymour Reit) $6 HB EC A novel about a little-known event in American history--the great cannon trek of 1775. Colonel Henry Knox conceived a plan to take desperately needed cannons and ammunition from New York's Fort Ticonderoga to Boston where rebel forces feared that a British attack was imminent. The huge, ungainly guns had to be moved during the winter over hundreds of miles of mountainous wilderness. The bulk of this book re-creates that arduous journey to and from the fort. 10+

The American Victory (JoAnne A. Grote) $4 PB VGC (Cover crease) Eight-year-old Paul Lankford's father has been away fighting in the American Revolution for most of Paul's life. Because he has only seen his father a few times in the past six years, Paul barely knows him. So when the war finally ends in 1781 and Paul's father returns home, he has a difficult time adjusting to the change. 10+

The Winter Hero (James Lincoln Collier) $3 PB VGC (Ex lib) It’s 1787 and 14-year-old Justin Conkey is about to make up for the fact that he was too young to fight in the Revolution of 1776. Shay’s Rebellion is the new war, and he is determined to be part of it, even if he only has his father’s old sword for protection. This land rush creates one of the major conflicts in the novel: men devoting their energies to the land rush instead of fighting with the beleaguered troops of the Continental army.
