My First Cook Book (Jennifer Fellows) $3 HB EC Over 25 recipes that are simple and specially designed to be easily made for the younger members of the family. There is an emphasis on safety, with blue and pink spots indicating where a parent should supervise or take part. Very clear instructions with colourful diagrams for steps. 7+

First Cook Book (Claire Boyce) $3 PB EC A gorgeous, colourful books for the little chef! Very appealing layout and recipes that kids like. 7+

Cooking For Every Occasion (Chris Weckert) $3 PB EC A delightfully illustrated cooking book for the more experienced young cook. The recipes are wholesome and simple to prepare. There are microwave recipes as well as suggestions for special occasions such as birthdays and Mothers Day and Father’s Day breakfasts in bed. Shows how to be a no-fuss whizz in the kitchen and has a section on good nutrition and the food pyramid in the front. 9+

Busy Little Cook (Judy Bastyra) $3 HB EC Offers lots of ideas to keep children absorbed while teaching them basic cookery skills. The book has a host of special recipe suggestions from mini pizzas to spice bunnies. These can be made in a maximum of five illustrated steps, with a photograph showing how the finished food looks. 5-10 YO

Busy Little Gardener (Helen Barden) $3 HB VGC (Has scribble on first page) This lively and colourful book will enable young children, whether they live in the city or the country, to have a first taste of the pleasures and rewards of gardening.
